WORDS OF PATRIOTS
"There are people in the world so hungry that god cannot appear before them in any form other than bread."
"Strength does not come from physical attributes. It comes from an indomitable will."
"As soon as we lose the moral basis, we cease to be religious. There is no such thing as religion over-riding morality. Man cannot be cruel, untruthful and incontinent and claim to have god on his side."
"Non-violence doesn't mean not fighting the enemy; but by enemy is meant the evil men do, not the human beings themselves."
"Untouchability is a crime against god and man."
"I do not want my house to be walled in on all sides and my windows to be stuffed. I want the winds of all lands to blow about my house as freely as possible. But I refuse to be blown off my feet by any. I refuse to be an interloper, a beggar or a slave."
"A moment comes, which comes but rarely in history, when we step out from the old to the new; when an age ends; and when the soul of a nation long suppressed finds utterance."
"The only alternative to co-existence is co-destruction."
"You cannot change the course of history by turning the faces of portraits to the wall."
"Hindus and Muslims in India: a thousand years of our joint life has moulded us into a common nationality. Nature does her fashioning through hidden processes in the course of centuries. This cannot be done artificially. It can also not be undone artificially by creating Pakistan."
- MAULANA ABUL KALAM AZAD
"Everyone who repeats the dogma of Mill that no country is fit to rule another country must admit that no one class/ caste must rule over another class/ caste."
DR. B.R. AMBEDKAR
"Where the mind is without fear,
And the head is held high,
Where knowledge is free,
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls,
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way into the dreary desert sands of dead habit,
Into that heaven of freedom,
My father let my country awake."
"The aim of life is not to realise truth, beauty and goodness only in contemplation or prayer but also in our day to day experience; social progress depends not on the ennoblement of the few but in the enrichment of democracy. Universal brotherhood can be acheived only when there is an equality of opportunity."
"My religion is peace, love and service to humanity. Those who are indifferent to the welfare of their fellowmen, whose hearts are empty of love do not know the meaning of spirituality. My Islam is amal, yakeen, mohabbat: service, faith and love."
-KHAN ABDUL GHAFFAR KHAN (aka "FRONTIER GANDHI")
"Lack of understanding about secularism in an Indian context creates confusion about communalism which begins to parade as nationalism. If ideas which demonise entire groups of people gain common currency then it is natural for minorities to feel insecure. And a country where one's life, honour and property are not safe cannot eternally expect allegiance. The far right often tries to fill the majority community with hatred. Similar efforts are made by some organisations that claim to represent minorities. A hate soaked mind, seeped in propaganda is especially susceptible to rumours. Let us not forget that whenever a riot is to be provoked the atmosphere is surcharged with rumours. It is for for us to think how we can combat this menace that poisons our national soul."
"Oh! young through all thy immemorial years,
Rise, mother rise and regenerate from thy gloom.
And like a bride high mated with the spheres,
Beget new glories from thine ageless womb."
